He declared, simply, that the world financial system has already chosen Brazil's future president. And it has to be their chosen one if the county wants to avoid chaos. Without any ceremony or constraint, he explained, "in global capitalism, only Americans vote, Brazilians do not vote." He justified his statement by saying that the Roman Empire was also that way, clarifying that "in Ancient Rome, only the Romans voted," the territories did not vote.

Thus, according to this illustrious "mega-investor" or "mega-speculator," a typical representative of the new empire of the powerful that get rich reaping fabulous profits from the financial crisis of countries strangled by debt, we will not have anything to do in October. The Brazilian elections will not be valid, they will not change anything, the only justification they have will be to ratify a decision already made by the lords of the empire, and carry out the slave's ritual of Roman times, of giving tribute. We know, for example, that those condemned to death had to pass in front of Cesar, and reverently prostrate themselves before him, in a macabre ritual that contained the famous expression: "Ave, Caesar, morituri te slutant." It would lack electoral justice to demand the voters bear this phrase like a sign, even in Latin, or in the translation adapted to the circumstances: "Hail Bush, those that are going to die salute you!"

George Soros' declarations would not even deserve to be cited if they were confined to what they cannot help but be: an over-bearing expression of arrogance by one who thinks that money buys everything, even the dignity of people and the sovereignty of nations.

But it happens that Soros is not alone. He is the expression of a system that has the appearance of neutrality and that justifies itself as the fruit of an irreversible economic reality, defending for itself a deterministic logic above human liberty.

But in truth, it is a result of very well plotted schemes that smoothed the way for financial capital to enjoy protection in order to operate securely and freely, removing all the articles of legal framework arduously constructed by modern democracies to protect workers and defend human rights. The speculators think that money is the only important thing and they advocate for a free global playground in which to profit at will, even though they sacrifice national sovereignty for it, as Soros proposed for Brazil.

At present, the matter is very serious. It demands a ranking of the candidates. National dignity urges that we vote for candidates that are ours, not for candidates chosen by the Americans or other speculators. A candidate elected by the vote of international speculators will not have any legitimacy with which to govern Brazil.

The matter also demands a position from the actual government, as national sovereignty cannot be compromised by any financial dependence. Just as you do not sell your soul to the devil in order to do a transaction, you do not cede the sovereignty of a country for financial motives.

The elections will happen and we want them to count. Watchfulness is indispensable. More than ever, the Cry of the Excluded, planned for the Week of Patriotism, will be opportune with the providential slogan already chosen: Sovereignty is not negotiable. Not one "Soros" speculator (or "soros caseiros") has the right to impose on us any candidate, whoever he may be.

Landless of Northwestern Minas Gerais Do Not Withdraw From the Struggle

On June 14th, close to 400 landless families reoccupied the Vereda de Leitão ranch in Uruana de Minas. The area holds 1800 hectares of unproductive land, much of which is unoccupied and seems to be totally abandoned.

The ranch had already been occupied in the beginning of March. After negotiations with INCRA, the families left the ranch and camped on the side of the road. As INCRA did not come through with what was promised, the families returned to occupy the ranch. The climate was tense. During the reoccupation, rural worker José Batista Tavares de Melo was shot by the manager of the ranch.

Manifestation Against the Handing Over of the Alcântara Base to the United States

On Monday June 24th, there was an event at the João Caetano Theater in Rio de Janeiro at 6 p.m. It was a National Campaign against the FTAA activity. http://www.mst.org.br/campanh/alca/grito.html Present were intellectuals, artists, political leaders, as well as community representatives of the remaining descendents of fugitive slaves in Alcântara and representatives from Brazilian social movements.

Eleições e Soberania

Mesmo em meio à pausa concedida pela copa mundial, não é possível que passem em branco as afirmações de George Soros sobre a situação do Brasil diante das eleições presidenciais de outubro.

Ele declarou, simplesmente, que o sistema financeiro mundial já escolheu o futuro presidente do Brasil. E tem que ser o escolhido deles se o país quiser evitar o caos. Sem nenhuma cerimônia nem constrangimento, explicou que "no capitalismo global só votam os americanos, os brasileiros não votam". Justificou sua afirmação dizendo que assim era também no Império Romano, esclarecendo que "na Roma Antiga só votavam os romanos", as províncias não votavam.

Portanto, segundo este ilustre "megainsvestidor" ou "megaespeculador", representante típico do novo império dos poderosos que enriqueceram colhendo lucros fabulosos da crise financeira em que se encontram países estrangulados pela dívida, nós não teríamos mais nada a fazer em outubro. As eleições brasileiras não seriam para valer, não mudariam nada, só teriam como justificativa ratificar uma decisão já tomada pelos senhores do império, e cumprir o ritual de vassalagem dos escravos dos tempos de Roma, de que a história registra alguns requintes de crueldade. Sabemos, por exemplo, que os condenados à morte precisavam passar diante de César e reverentes, se prostrar diante dele, em macabra liturgia que continha a famosa expressão: "Ave, Caesar, morituri te salutant" . Faltaria a justiça eleitoral exigir dos eleitores que trouxessem esta frase como senha, em latim mesmo, ou em tradução adaptada às circunstâncias: "Salve, Bush, os que vão morrer te saúdam!".

As declarações de George Soros nem mereceriam ser citadas se elas se reduzissem ao que não deixam também de ser: expressão de prepotência e de arrogância de quem acha que o dinheiro compra tudo, até a dignidade dos povos e a soberania das nações.

Mas acontece que Soros não está sozinho. Ele é expressão de um sistema que aparenta neutralidade e que se justifica como fruto de uma realidade econômica irreversível, advogando para si próprio uma lógica determinista que estaria acima da liberdade humana.

Mas que, na verdade, é resultante de tramas muito bem urdidas, que aplainaram os caminhos para o capital financeiro gozar de toda proteção para agir segura e livremente, removendo todos os itens do arcabouço jurídico penosamente construído pelas democracias modernas de proteção ao trabalho e de defesa dos direitos humanos. Os especuladores acham que o que vale é só o dinheiro e advogam para ele cancha livre lucrar à vontade, mesmo que para isto se sacrifique a soberania nacional, como propõe Soros para o Brasil.

Ora, o assunto é sério demais. Ele exige um posicionamento dos candidatos. Pois a dignidade nacional urge que votemos em candidatos que são nossos, não dos americanos ou de outros especuladores. Um candidato eleito pelo voto dos especuladores internacionais não teria nenhuma legitimidade para governar o Brasil.

O assunto exige também um posicionamento do atual governo, pois a soberania nacional não pode estar comprometida por nenhuma dependência financeira. Assim como não se vende a alma ao diabo para fazer qualquer negócio, não se aliena a soberania de um país por motivos financeiros.

As eleições vão acontecer e queremos que sejam para valer. O alerta é imprescindível. Mais que nunca, será oportuno o Grito dos Excluídos, programado para a Semana da Pátria, com o lema providencial já escolhido acertadamente: Soberania não se negocia. Nenhum "Soros" especulador, nem outros "soros caseiros" têm o direito de nos impor qualquer candidato, seja ele quem for.

Sem Terra do Noroeste de Minas Gerais não arredam o pé da luta Cerca de 400 famílias sem terra reocuparam, em 14 de junho, a fazenda Vereda de Leitão, em Uruana de Minas. A área possui 1800 hectares, é improdutiva e com muita terra devoluta, que encontra-se em total abandono. A fazenda já havia sido ocupada no início do mês de março. Após negociação com o Incra, as famílias saíram da fazenda e acamparam na beira da estrada. Como o Incra não cumpriu o prometido, as famílias voltaram a ocupar a fazenda. O clima é tenso. Com a reocupação, o trabalhador rural José Batista Tavares de Melo foi baleado pelo gerente da fazenda. Solicitamos que enviem mensagens ao Iter (Instituto de Terras) para que as famílias possam avançar na pauta de reivindicações e ao mesmo tempo permanecer dentro da área para morar e produzir.

Manifesto contra a Entrega da Base de Alcântara aos Estados Unidos

Acontece na próxima segunda-feira, 24 de junho, ato de lançamento do Manifesto contra a Entrega da Base de Alcântara aos Estados Unidos. O evento ocorre no Teatro João Caetano, Rio de Janeiro, às 18 horas. É uma atividade da Campanha Nacional contra a Alca e contará com a presença de intelectuais, artistas, lideranças políticas, além de representantes de comunidades remanescentes de quilombos em Alcântara e de movimentos sociais brasileiros.
