Below is a message regarding the upcoming trial of the policemen involved in the Massacre at Eldorado Dos Carajas (in English, Portuguese and Spanish).

Dear Friends,

1. Judge Eva Coelho do Amaral set April 8, 2002 as the date to begin the trial. In the first session, the 3 officers acquitted in August 1999 will be tried. In the second session, on April 15th, another 17 officers will be tried and in the third session, on April 22, a remaining 129 policemen will be tried.
2. The MST does not agree with the the trial in the State Court because all the judges who have worked in the process of Eldorado of the Carajás trials have acted with the intention of acquitting the defendants. We are demanding that the Federal Government immediately approve the law that would enable the transfer cases of human rights crimes to Federal Court.
3. Although we do not agree with the trial as it currently stands, we are working so that all the culprits are condemned and imprisoned.

4. We are requesting that all entities and individuals to accompany and witness the trial, because, if there are further maneuvers to acquit those who are guilty, the entities who attended the trial will be positioned to denounce these actions.
5. We are also asking that messages (IN ANY LANGUAGE) requesting the impartiality of the court be sent to Pará state's Presidency of the Court of Justice and to Judge Amaral.

Moreover, I am writing to demand that the trial be carry out with impartiality, so as to bring those who are guilty to justice.

Estamos exigindo do Governo Federal que aprove imediatamente o projeto de lei que transfere a competência nos crimes contra os direitos humanos para a Justiça Federal.
3. Apesar de não concordarmos, estamos trabalhando para que todos os culpados sejam condenados e presos.
4. Estamos convocando as entidades e pessoas para que assistam ao julgamento, porque, se houver outras manobras para absolverem os réus, as entidades que assistiram, poderão denunciar.

1. La juez Eva Coelho do Amaral fijó la fecha para iniciar el juicio para el día 08 de abril. En la primer sesión serán juzgados los 3 oficiales que fueron absueltos en agosto de 1999. En la segunda sesión, el día 15 de abril, serán juzgados otros 17 oficiales y en la tercer sesión, el día 22/04 serán juzgados otros 129 policías.
2. El MST no está de acuerdo con que el juicio sea realizado por la Justicia Estatal (de Pará) porque todos los juezes que trabajaron en el proceso de Eldorado do Carajás actuaron con la intención de absolver a los acusados. Estamos exigiendo que el Gobierno Federal apruebe inmediatamente el proyecto de Lei que transfiere a competencia en los crímeness contra los direchos humanos para la Justicia Federal.
3. A pesar de que no estamos de acuerdo, estamos trabajando para que todos los culpables sean condenados y arrestados.
4. Estamos convocando a las entidades y personas para que presencien el juicio, porque, si hay otras maniobras para absolver a los reos, las entidades que asistan, podrán denunciarlas.
