Ana Chã Discusses Culture and Mística in New York City
On August 13, 2014, Ana Chã discussed the role of mística and culture in the development of the Landless Worker’s Movement. As explained by Ana, mística is more than singing and storytelling. “Mística is way for peasants to summarize their experiences of occupying land and struggling for agrarian reform. The songs that are part of mística throughout all the settlements and encampments came from the experiences of struggle – they reflect both the history of a particular settlement and the history of our movement in general.”
The event included a lively discussion on the role of culture in defining our movements and helping to fortify our strength to continue to struggle for a better world.
