MST ADOPTS AGRARIAN PROGRAM

The 6th Congress of the MST adopted an “Agrarian Program” after two years of analysis and debate throughout the hundreds of settlements Agrarian Program Bookletand encampments of the MST. The Agrarian Program is the MST’s analysis of the current political and economic conditions in Brazil and throughout the world and will guide the MST’s struggle for agrarian reform and a more just society over the next five years.

The Agrarian Program begins with an analysis of the process of capitalist development in the countryside, detailing both the historical context and the current conditions of changes in ownership of land, social classes and the contradictions of capitalist production. The Agrarian Program analyzes the struggle for agrarian reform, historically and under current conditions. Finally the program for People’s Agrarian Reform and its difference with “classical” agrarian reform is detailed.

We have included the Agrarian Program (translated into English by the FMST’s volunteer translators). The Agrarian Program is also available from the FMST, individual copies or in bulk. Contact us at info@mstbrazil.org.

We are also including an article by Marina dos Santos, a member of the MST’s National Coordination, discussing People’s Agrarian Reform in its historical context.
