Occupy Brazil: The Landless Dig In

Home

Objectives of the MST

Since its founding, the MST has organized around three main objectives:

• Fighting for the land

• Fight for Land Reform

• Strive for a more just and fraternal society

These goals are manifested in the documents that guide the political action of the MST, defined in its National Congresses and the Land Reform Program.  See "Program for Agrarian Reform."

In addition, fighting for a more just and fraternal society means that workers and landless workers and supporters are involved in initiatives that seek to address the serious structural problems of Brazil: social inequality of income, ethnicity and gender discrimination , the concentration of communication, exploitation of urban workers, etc.. The MST knows that the solution to these problems will only be possible through a Popular Project for Brazil - the result of organization and mobilization of workers. And the MST trusts that the implementation of land reform to democratize access to land and producing food, it is its most effective contribution to the achievement of a Popular Project.

Therefore, the MST also participates in joint projects and organizations seeking to transform reality and ensure these social rights. Nationally, the MST participates in the National Forum for Agrarian Reform, the Coordination of Social Movements and campaigns permanent or cyclical. Internationally, we are part of Via Campesina, which unites the social movements on five continents.
