In the beginning of 2013, another two MST leaders - Cicero Guedes and Dona Regina - were brutally murdered in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Cícero, age 48, was shot in the head on January 25, 2013, when he left the settlement on his bicycle. No individual has yet been brought under investigation for these assassinations, whether those who killed or who ordered their killings.

In 2004, Andriano Chafik, a large-scale landowner in Brazil, led a massacre on a farm in Felisburgo killing five and wounding another twelve landless rural workers who were occupying unproductive land - nine years later, despite his confession, Chafik remains free and no one has been brought to justice. We demand that the Brazilian government:

  1. Complete the court procedures against Adriano Chafik for leading the Felisburgo Massacre,
  2. Carry through a serious investigation of the assassinations of Cicero and Regina, and
  3. Bring to justice all those who kill or order the killing of landless people.

Globalize struggle! Globalize hope!
