[02/10/2006] MST of Pernambuco sends thanks, reiterates its commitments

“A profound indignation, whenever an injustice is committed against anyone in any part of the world, is the most beautiful quality in human beings"
- Che Guevara

The Landless Workers Movement (MST), of Pernambuco, sends its thanks to all who demonstrated their solidarity during the recent persecution by the judiciary and their latifundio [landowners] allies. Solidarity amongst those who struggle, those who dream, is an essential part of our human worth. Soo many obstacles, fences, and difficulties, can be overcome by this force.

To prevent Agrarian Reform in Brazil the landlords unite with the elite, with the judges, the mass media, and the politicians that they own. Meanwhile, in the struggle for Agrarian Reform millions upon millions of landless workers and other defenders of the people join together and construct our collective force.

With their history of violence, mono-cultural production in the fields, aggression towards the environment, and owing their existence to the generation of misery, the owners of the sugar cane industry act with the intention of criminalizing and killing those who get in their way. Still, they could not stop the determined force that came from all who reacted immediately against this violation of our rights, preventing the ongoing repressive acts that have been ordered from the Usina Estreliana [Sugarcane Processing Plant] and carried out by the judiciary.

The struggle for the expropriation of lands held by this processing plant will only intensify. The mobilization of landless workers will not end until the 150 Landless families are granted their right to these lands. We reiterate our commitment to those who struggle for land, and we intend to construct a better future with these people, with solidarity our guiding principle.
